Condo London 2018 Highlights

These are the galleries and artists that will map the established market in the years to come. Insider collectors and curators know it and have their eye on it. These are my highlights. You have until February 10th to discover yours.

In its 3rd edition, CONDO 2018 has become London’s art event inaugurating the New Year. The concept of the event is that commercial art galleries tap into the global collaborative spirit and open their spaces to international peer galleries to exhibit their own stable of artists.

CONDO 2018 brings together 17 galleries across the city hosting 46 international galleries. Whilst in the 2016 inaugural edition the profile of participating galleries was young and emerging, mostly based in London’s East End and South, this year seems to be sprawling onto central  London with more established names. Sadie Coles and Maureen Pauley (two commercial institutions) repeat since their joining last year and Pilar Corrias follows suit and joins the venture this time.

The objective of this initiative is to give the opportunity to small and medium size galleries to exhibit internationally for a fraction of the cost compared to participating at an art fair. It also takes place over a longer period of time; a month compared to the long weekend that is the norm at art fairs. The format seems to have rooted well and after three editions in London and two in New York, there are plans to launch also this summer in Shanghai.
